Dr. Schulz is the Rick McCord Professor of Neurology, the Umphrey Family Professor of Neurodegenerative Disorders, the Director of the Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry Fellowship, and the Director of the Neurocognitive Disorders Center (NCDC). The NCDD is a subspecialty group that includes 2 neuropsychiatrists, 4 neuropsychologists, 4 administrators, 2 nurses, 2 NPs, 3 neuropsychology technicians, and 12 study coordinators. Dr. Schulz conducts AD clinical trials; he is PI on 15 treatment trials for AD (investigator-initiated and pharma-sponsored). He has ongoing collaborations with basic scientists investigating the processes underlying Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and improving diagnoses. For ReCARDO, he contributes the clinical and scientific questions, experience, and resources to collaborate on this grant with Dr. GQ Zhang. He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this project in aspects that include (1) evaluate patients with AD for 30+ years; (2) evaluate about 10-15 new patients each week and enroll many in clinical and basic studies and clinical trials; (3) follow a large cohort of well-characterized patients; (4) routinely collect multiple biomarkers from patients, including blood and imaging data; (5) have been involved in many studies regarding processes underlying AD; and, (6) keenly aware of the great need to develop and disseminate standardized common data elements (CDEs) for AD/ADRD through collaborative frameworks. Dr. Schulz will contribute to work in several Work Streams related to his expertise.
