Dr. Liu, McWilliams Chair of Biomedical Informatics, Vice President, Professor of Biomedical Informatics with joint appointment in Medicine and Behavioral Health, will serve as MPI on this proposal. She directs the Center for Translational AI Excellence and Applications in Medicine (TEAM-AI), leading a team of faculty members, informaticians, and data scientists to advance translational AI in medicine and healthcare at UTHealth Houston. She has formal training in quantitative science disciplines (including mathematics, statistics, computer and information sciences) with a decade-long career in providing institutional scientific leadership in data science, informatics, and artificial intelligence. She has been dedicated in bringing people-centric, value-added, and evidence-based informatics solutions to solve real-world challenges faced by researchers and healthcare providers. Her research has translated to multiple institutional projects at her prior institution, Mayo Clinic, enhanced enterprise data and informatics infrastructure for clinical and translational research and practice. Nationally and internationally, she focuses on the development of open-source informatics solutions for multi-site collaboration, leading the community-wide project, Open Health Natural Language Processing (OHNLP), which promotes the release of open-source NLP tools for clinical and translational research. In this project, Dr. Liu will serve as MPI to share the leadership among lead investigators Drs. Arvanitakis, Chen, Cui, Liu, Petersen, and Zhang, leveraging their complementary skill sets. Together with MPIs Drs. Zhang, Chen, and Cui, our expertise covers the areas of data science, AI/ML/NLP, and she will lead the development and management of CDEs and RWD.
Specifically, she will be a standing member of the Steering Committee, co-lead the administrative hub to implement the five Key Functions to serve the ReCARDO Research Network, and co-lead the effort on AD-CDE extraction from RWD in NIA-funded studies.
