Dr. Amy Franklin is an accomplished researcher and educator who has been with the McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics at UTHealth Houston since 2009, following her tenure at the Cognitive Science Department at Rice University. In September 2018, she was appointed Assistant Dean at the school. Dr. Franklin’s research primarily explores the intersection of cognition and communication, particularly in medical settings. Her work delves into decision-making processes in emergency departments, the usability and impact of electronic health records, and human-computer interaction within healthcare. With a strong focus on patient safety, Dr. Franklin investigates how communication and technology can reduce medical errors and improve healthcare delivery. Her areas of expertise include psycholinguistics, conversational negotiation, and the reduction of medical errors through enhanced usability and effective communication in clinical environments. In this project, she will work with MPI colleagues at UTHealth and direct ReCARDO’s administrative activities.
